Town Hall Dobrovice.

Some time ago I bought a few kits from Migas, a newish Czech publisher.
This is the second kits of theirs I've made.

This one is 150:1 scale and stands about 8 inches tall. This means there are some very small parts - as you will see from the pictures.

The parts fit together very well, but the instructions are a little brief. The relationship between the arches and the inner wall are not shown, although a few minutes of head scratching and "dry fitting" resolved the matter.

Here are a few pictures taken during the build.

Cheers
Mike

Err - confused!

Is the finished building the one you are making in the first post (the kit picture is different!)?

Looks like a very nice kit - though some of these parts are indeed tiny!

Well done on a nice clean model - yet again Mike, I just do not know where you find the time for all this prolific output!

Oh dear - The picture of the cover is the wrong one ;-(

When I dug out the town hall I brought out the other kit - intending to make it next - So, please ignore the kit cover and replace it with this one.

To make things more confusing - the model I've just started is not the building in my first post. The new model is a castle - although it could be some time before it sees the light of day......

LOL ... and difficulty is 3 out of 5. My skill level must be about 1.5 on their scale. Looks great.

Interesting building - well done. Those massive buttresses are bizarre. They must have had major subsidence problems to add such ugly things to a rather pretty facade.

It seems unlikely that they were part of the building - as you say they aren't pretty and don't servre any purpose. All the history is in Czech so I have no way of finding out.
My thought was that they were part of the original city walls and the town hall was built round them - much easier than knocking them down!

Maybe the buttresses were to reinforce a collapsing facade!

After reading that sentence I was going to add something else but perhaps I had best not!

Waymarking.com suggests that the town hall was built in 1608, and the "pillars" added around 1660 for support. All pretty normal - lots of old buildings were built on inadequate foundations, and either collapsed or had to be prevented from collapse by hasty additions - except for their size and ugliness. One feels that something exceptional was going on to prevent their being more in keeping with the scale and style of the rest of the building.
