More Beverley Minster
I have now started on the West Facade of Beverley Minster. There is a rather curious looking arrangement at Beverley as also at Southwell, where, between the two western towers, there is a kind of "saddle" astride the main ridge of the nave roof. On the Southwell model, I broke this down into too many parts and, as they were glued together, the combined folds, tabs and general card thickness, caused imperfect fitting. With this model of Beverley Minster, I have made the towers and nave end as one unit which can be butted up to the rest of the model. The added benetit of this way of solving the problem, is that the towers are both automatically perpendicular to the rest of the model. The one exception to this would be Lincoln Cathedral. I actually made one of the west towers at a tilt to reflect the fact that it is actually so.
The photos show Beverley Minster at the models current full length. The new parts as they fit together. The test piece for the Beverley towers and, by way of comparison, Southwell with its own saddle between the towers. I don't normally do test blanks now, as I am more confident of getting the pieces right first time: I just wanted to see what the towers would look like.
