We've got some pretty good examples of useless officials right now.

This is only half of the Strange, Elberton Georgia claims to be, "The Granite Capital of the World" who's main industry is in, "monuments" (tombstones)

They have a checkered past with statuary, note these images, the first is, "Dutchy" a commemorate confederate statue, the creator was hung and the statue was toppled in the town square and buried where it fell.

This second image is of the statue that replaced it in the town square and a bust of FDR that was defaced and later re-carved to create this guy, note the strange symbols on his tie.

Elberton is also the home of, "The Granite Bowl", collegiate games are played in this stadium of granite with the exception of a solitary, pinkish stone at one end that players rub for good luck.

wiki = "Granite Bowl"

Okay, black and white is done, thought it would be a first good practice to assemble it and make sure all of the languages were where they were supposed to be before adding details.

okay, moving right along, the details have been added and it's time to assemble another one.

I started by pre-assembling the three components print side in that fit within the center column and capstone.

A toothpick was used to align the parts within the openings.

The capstone and footing were then added to the center column.

I just whipped up a generic bitmap for the texture.

What puzzles me most is the last caption on a horizontal explanatory tablet adjacent to the monument.

It list the languages and their placement as well as the creator(s) and purpose.

Also listed are the size and weight of each stone as well as the three astronomical features.

But what really has me puzzled is one of the last inscriptions regarding a, "Time Capsule"

It Reads:

"Time Capsule
Placed six feet below this spot
On
To Be Opened on"

Both the date of burial and recovery have been left blank, does this mean they haven't buried the time capsule yet?, what are they waiting for?

Everyone seems perplexed by the cube that was found there earlier this year however, the English panel has been purposely notched from day one to receive such a cube.

Attached is an image of Marji standing above the explanatory tablet on the far right of this image

Also an image of the recess in the top of the English panel where the cube was found.

Dear FRD:
I am amazed that you have put in some internal features of the stones good luck on trying to photograph the structure to show these off.
Enjoying the build,
Miles

Miles-
The column has a horizontal slot carved through it which is aligned with the Sun's solstices and equinoxes. through the column's diagonal channel the north star can be seen.

An aperture in the capstone allows a ray of sun light to pass through at noon each day, shining a beam on the center stone indicating the day of the year. (or so they say, it's all written down on the explanatory tablet)

It simply states:

Astronomic Features
1. channel through stone
indicates celestial pole.
2. horizontal slot indicates
annual travel of sun.
3. sunbeam through capstone
marks noontime throughout
the year

As in this image of Marji looking, the slot is right at eye level.

A fascinating project, both the enigmatic original and your very well designed and crafted model. I have enjoyed reading your narrative and seeing the images.
