Ulm minster, Schreiber-Bogan 1:300

Another church--Ulm minster looked both interesting and challenging.
Not officially a cathedral, Ulm minster's construction began in the late 1300's and was consecrated as a Catholic church in 1405, having to be renovated shortly thereafter.
In 1530, the citizens voted to convert to Protestantism and Ulm became a Lutheran church. As was the case with many churches, work was halted and the building not completed until 1890.
The height of its principal steeple is 161.5m (530 ft.), tallest in the world until 1901.

The first step is to establish the lower, main tower which mean creating numerous openings for windows.

Vermin_King--thanks for the heads up. I downloaded it but not sure when it will be on the "do" list.

Windows are finally done and installed.

Added to the lower main tower.

The recessed windows got you off to a great start there Mike. They really look good. Looking forward to more.

That looks impressive! They certainly "throw you in at the deep end"

You wanted something challenging - it looks as if your wish came true.
I'll follow your progress with interest.

Cheers

Nice start. Been thinking about getting that one to built, also. Will watch this thread with interest.

Elliot, Mike and Doug,

Thanks for looking in.

Yes, recessed windows certainly get one off to a challenging start but the result is certainly worth it.

Next step is a series of pillars that surround the main tower.

Decided to build most of the lower pillars that surround the main tower before I began adding the tower to the base. I did enclose the tower and it is ready for the next step.

There are more pillars for the tower but they are up high and are to be completed later.

The main tower is mounted on the base and the lower pillars have been added.

Mike, your model is looking great. You are lucky that you just have one tower to build instead of two like my Wroclaw Cathedral. I have not been to Ulm Minster yet so I don't have that model. My wife lived near there 50 years ago. She said it was wonderful cathedral, and she visited quite often. Good luck, I will keep following you with interest.
