Now, to rest and catch my breath after so many vintage buildings I decided to make few easier models, based on a TGW series by Tsugawa Hiroyuki (free downloaded from Brothers Co webpage). The few basic designs were widely modified and converted by me in order to make a possibly diverse group of buildings surrounding the downtown marketplace. They are not machiya-type as they have no apartments on the first floor (at most a storeroom). The designs and constructive materials are simple and cheap - perhaps these shops were built during the late Shōwa period recession in 1980s.

I will need many buildings for the background of my diorama and they do not have to be as individualized and detailed as the buildings in the foreground, so I am going to make much more of them and to share the images when I finished.

Hey Andrew,

I've been watching Nekomura take shape, and I hope you don't mind a minor thread hijack - since most buildings are done you'll want to do roads next, and I just found a great resource in the most unlikely place:

Bトレイン無料ペーパークラフト4 特攻野郎Bチーム B-Team Free Papercrafts #4

The website is devoted to paper bodies for the Kato B-Train shorties, which are 1:150 Japanese N gauge for height and width but compressed in length. The page above has printouts for various street types and customizable with manholes, drains and streetside grass or clay [the red panels], and best of all the files aren't very big so you can save all the files you want! The markings are Japanese style and for left side driving, but flipping either horizontally or vertically gets you right side driving streets. Print at half size [4 pages per sheet] to get 1/300 scale.

Vayashi's [now pepar.net] used to have a collection of Japanese railway crossings that would have worked very well with these but I can't find them on pepar.net anymore.

Thank you very much for the link! I am collecting everything which can be of any use, and I still haven't decided how complicated the road system shall I use to keep balance between the realistic look and the time to be spent. Thanks for the support!

Resuming the generic small shops project, I made thirty of them during the last week but I couldn't stand the temptation to made them as different and individualized as possible. And finally I felt tired with the too quick work so I begun to design more sophisticated and specialized shops. For the moment I made the 31st and 32nd and these are fresh seafood stores, very popular and necessary element of any Japanese community. They are often decorated with the maritime ornaments, images of the edible species of the fishes, octopuses or crustaceans, and sometimes with the really big 3D models of the same animals, sometimes making even the brand logotype in form of such model (starting from the huge crab of Kani Doraku restaurant in Osaka in early 1960s). So I decided to follow the idea, creating the 2D fish and 3D shrimp (1 cm long, which is maybe too small for the big empty space of the facade - I feel I overdid the scaling down this time).

So now I will begin adding images to the Nekomura gallery starting with these two shops. The first, small and older building...

I am ready to take a walk through those streets and to admire the buildings.

...and the second, bigger and more modern one, together with the refrigerator truck with open door (the rear door of the building are open too) and a heap of empty containers.

More stuff for you Andrew, I just keep stumbling into these gems - here are diorama bases from no less than Tomytec themselves, who make those 1:150 N gauge vehicles and houses:

ダウンロード | ジオコレ | トミーテック

I think they're meant to fit inside a clear display box, but it doesn't mean one can't repurpose them - I think the display bases for the buildings might be too small for 1:150.

I am making progress with my bonnet truck kitbashes of the Kohnan Electric buses, and am trying to keep everything unmarked so builders can customize them to their taste.

Thanks, Ifuente!
Most of them are too simplified to be directly used for my diorama but some I found to be useful, and especially these catalogues brought me few inspiring visions - I would like to adapt some ideas. Thank you once again!
