Thank you my friends for the encouraging words. I think I'll build the make-believe Venice around the Ponte Rialto. But more of that later.

But first let me introduce two more relating builds: Codola Veneziana and Canal Grande in moonlight. Hope you enjoy these too.

(the condola is an old ABC-magzine kit I purchased recently and the moonlight is an ancient model from Illustriert Familie Journal)

The gondola is a darling! Classic ABC style model lovingly built.

I was tempted for a while to do the modern asymmetrical gondola, but stuck with the classic gondola when I designed mine. I wish I had captured the upraised stern, though

Did you build the Canal Grande 'straight'? I have tried to clean it up a few times and either make it too dark, too washed out, or too 'bright'

Nicely done, sir

Thanks Philip and yes it was a fun build. It came with an open deck condola too so more to come someday.
Vermin_King., I built it down scaled (50%) and that always fiddles with the colors. It is propably darker than it should be. Mine had so bad resolution and that's the reason for a mini version. As of your venetian designs I'm aware of those and downloaded them all. So maybe next autum they appear here too. Your condola is spot on for gaming purposes. I liked all the models I saw there.

Vermin_kING, here's cleaned version I just did. How does it look to you? I might build this one again now that I look at this version. ;-)

Did you know that it was venetians that gave most European languages the word ghetto meaning (source Miriam-Webster dictionary):

- a quarter of a city in which Jews were formerly required to live
- a quarter of a city in which members of a minority group live especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure

And that the the etymology of the word ghetto is traced to metal foundries previously located in the very area. Ghetto Nuovo means loosely 'new foundry area' and yes there is an area named Ghetto Vecchio (older foundy area) just below the Ghetto Nuovo in Cannareggio district in Venice. And to confuse you even further Ghetto Nuovo is older jewish quarter (jews were forced to live there starting 1516) and later it was spread to Ghetto Vechio area too.

This is FormaCulturas postcard model of Ghetto Nuovo. The card it is printed on is too thick for my taste so I made a copy with my preferred inkjet paper. I made quite many additions to the model and detailed it a bit too. It's very small model and quite smaller than the buildings presented in this thread earlier. Hope you like this addition to my venetian theme build.
