Cologne Cathedral - Canon

This time I'm facing Canon's hardest kit for sure. I've attempted this kit in the past, but I've got unmotivated to progress, but this time I'm already past the mark where I gave up previously. This kit is the real "big boy" of Canon, as there's 43 sheets with 812 parts. I started this Monday and so far I've did the walls/1st layer of portals, main roof, main spire and all the wall spires, wich took only 8 pages of parts. I also added box cardboard on the insides of the walls and the roof base as reinforcements and now they are very sturdy!!!
Definitively it will help on later stages of the kit. Next phase is to build the structures that will support the thousands of flying butresses that the kit features.

Cheers,
Gregory

I remember a friend Walter from Cologne took this on and eventually put it back to finish later. Unfortunately, he never finished it. I have been tempted to try it, for Walter/Shep, but I don't have time these days for even simple models.

Keep up the good work, sir

Finished doing the flying butresses holders bases/walls for all sides and it's butresses for 1 side, I will do the butresses for the other side next, then I will start the phase wich I think that will be the longest: the flying butresses itself, mainly because in this kit, each one of them are made of several parts, wich I really prefer, because it gives much more realism than just pure 2D versions of those butresses. Will be showing the building steps of each butress type so others that want to tackle this kit can face this part easily.

After approximately 4 days I finished the main butressess of the kit, and they were way less complicated than I imagined: they are complex, but once you get the hang of how to build one unit of each type, you can progress much faster on this phase. Now I'll be doing the side portals next.

And before I forget;
Belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all forum members!!

Cheers,
Gregory

After a couple of days, I finished the sides by adding all the facades/portals as well the last flying butresses for this phase, then I did all the front of the cathedral, including the last flying butresses of the kit. And last but not least, I built one of the back towers entirely. Now I'm working on the second tower;
building them is surprisingly easier than I tought. Hope to finish the entire build this week.

Cheers,
Gregory.
