Yeste Castle

I've been building Yeste Castle, a free download from the Spain's Province of Albacete's web site:

Diputacion de Albacete

There are a number of very interesting models available at this site, and I plan to build a few more of the castles in the near future.

I printed the Yeste Castle model at half size on one sheet of paper. I did not find any instructions or pictures of the model, but fortunately the tabs and edges are numbered so it is not too difficult to figure things out. I started by building the towers, the interior courtyard frame, and the more complex part of the exterior wall. From here, I plan to continue by adding on bit by bit, closing up with a simple section of the exterior wall.

I'm afraid my modeling skills are far below the standards of this community, so there are several noticeable errors in the result. My enjoyment stems mostly from the assembly process.

That is great, and a great way of spreading knowledge on cultural features such as this. Please continue.

Looks good to me. You already hit on one way to make errors less noticeable. Print off small. The smaller the model, the smaller (and less noticeable) are any errors

Very nice build so far. I'm looking forward to the finished product. Did you go small for reasons of space?

Nice work. These are nice kits for the less experienced modeller and also might provide some tips for designing models too, as well as learning some Spanish along the way. I like the layered topographic model of the whole province available on that landing page, wonder if with sufficient time others could make these for other parts of the world? There's an island near where I live that would make a good subject for such a model.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. Philip-- I build small mainly because I just like smaller size models. Just a personal preference.

The pictures show the completion of the model. I made a big mistake placing the courtyard's roof edge on the "internal" wall rather than the "exterior" wall that forms the long wall through the middle of the castle. I compensated by moving that external wall inward and fudging up with coloring and a spacer strip. Assembling the remainder of the outer walls went smoothly.

The last step was to put on the "dirt skirt" around the outside of the castle walls. After a little trimming for a better fit, I tacked the skirt to the wall in a few critical places. Finally I glued the outer edge down. Since there were no cuts in this skirt, a bit of folding was necessary.

I took pictures of the final result in better lighting.

Lots of character. Have you decided on your next project?

The finished building looks great !

I've down loaded a few of these kits but never made one - perhaps I should "think again"

Cheers
Mike
