Hey all.

Here's something I've been working on for a while. Thought you might be interested. Plus, putting this up will keep me working on it.

I've been working on this repaint since Nathanial released the Long Ranger model. Once I finish this one, I have another one of the same pattern, but different colors that should come out pretty quickly. I just have a few lines to tweak into the right position and it will be done. Hopefully after next week I'll have some time to finish it. That's when summer vacation starts!!!!

That is very pretty! Tell me, what are we seeing here? - Is it a white model totally painted along some exploratory lines to create the proper colour scheme in print later, or what? It is good to learn more about this process. - Leif

I took the basic lines of the model and used this photo as a reference
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/996009/2/istockphoto_996009_bell_ranger.jpg

Then, I marked out the division on yellow and white. I filled it in with lines to make the colored areas solid. Once I had that split on both sides, I went through and made the marks for the lines one set at a time. Once I had one side right, I just copy and paste a mirror image on the other side. Matching the diagonal lines over the spaces was super tricky and tested every last spec of my photoshop skills.

I hope that with about another hour or two I will have everything finished up. Then all that's left is the final test build. It's really a great model. The only tricky part is the top of the engine area. Lots of little bits to get glued up, but one or twp practices and I had it down. Most anyone else won't have too big of a problem. Especially you Leif! :D

N810- your original is great. It is very easy to work with. That's why my stuff looks any good. Your work on the design was spot on. I hope to finish this next week. Track season is over on Tuesday, which should free up a lot of time.

Good job Willygoat! That's the way, jump in and learn how to do it. Matching up panel lines can be done different ways, Rob has some good ideas, I think you have to find a way that works for you. I'm sometimes use some rivet line or something to go by,** but often cut and paste temporarily the adjacent edge next to the peice being colored and then can line up the marks perfectly (is that clear enough to see what I mean?) Then make a little hash mark for the new peice, and delete the pasted part (or erase it may be easier) That is how I did the nose markings for the Gremir P-40 which has a complex alignment of small parts. **;)

Wow, I've been a slacker! I finally got back to work on the Long Ranger today. The summer job has taken up considerably more time and energy than I thought. I used my day off to full advantage. I think I fixed all of the miss-matches in the main design lines. Plus, I added the ends of the lines (penciled in lines in the first pic) on the engine cover. It took some doing and brain wracking, but we'll see how it goes. I hope to test build that section this weekend if I have time. If it works, I'll just mirror and flip the image to the other side and make my final test build before sending the files to Nathan to look over.

I just bought this one a little bit ago. Is it the origional used for this model, or did you start with something else?

1/33 Bell 206-L Long Ranger by Ecardmodels Exclusives - ECardmodels.com Shop - Downloadable models (http://ecardmodels.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=419)?

It looks like a nice model, but I don't really like the solid red color as it is. Will your repaint be aviliable for sale a some point? Thanks

Wow! There's the kick in the arse that I needed to finish this thing. I hope to get in done now by the end of September. (I'm a lazy pile). But, I have a list of excuses :D The main ones being i've been doing a load of landscaping at my house by my self (never ever again!) and school just started. I've never been this busy this early in 6 years of teaching.

So, thank you Trevor! Now that I know it's wanted, I'll do my best to get it done. THe whole engine cowling strip thing didn't go well on my first attempt. A few hours of computer design and test builds should take care of it.

Glad to hear that you are still working on it. I just printed the origional out on 13x19 paper and I will give it a try. I saw that the 206 is avilaible in several diffirent colors, but it is of course a shorter smaller helicopter. I would really like to replicate the local air ambulance which I have had the chance to fly in (without remembering any of it) but it is a Bell 407 that is very similar in appearance to the 206L. The 407 I think is physically a little bit wider, And has 4 blades instead of 2, but the overall appearance is very similar. I may try to make a copy of it, but it will have to do it with stickers and such since I have no experience with repainting a model. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Thanks.

Well boys and girls, it's DONE!!!!!!!! I finished up the repaint work the other day, and I finished the main parts pages last night. I just have to put a picture of the bird on the cover page and it's off to Chris. Here's a preview

Just to add craziness to the build, the main and tail rotors both rotate. Granted, the main is pretty shaky as it spins around a straight pin, but it still turns. Look for it soon at Ecardmodels!

Well get to it man! I've finally got myself in the mood for designing again, and will be revisiting the Bell lines. First up will probably be an OH-58 kiowa

Thanks Billy! This thing took way too long and tested my patience and Photoshop skills to the limit. On a brighter note, when I do get around to doing more repaints of the 206L, they will be based on this basic pattern and should be much easier. :)

Dang! My brother flew this model for years, off shore in the gulf. I worked off shore in the oil fields for a while and also got a bunch of time in this thing as a passenger.:) If I got you a picture could you do one with his markings?
