FG Cessna Bird Dog Repaint

Did this for a buddy of mine who flew these in Nam. It is done as a plane from his unit. Had to fabricate a few extra parts to bring FG's WWII era bird dog model up to date. I seem to have a total disability to do a really good job building a FG model. I think its the 1 piece fuselages, they kinda throw me a bit. My biggest gripe about this model in retrospect is try as I might and 10 reprints later I still couldnt quite get the tail #s to line up on the vertical stab and rudder so eventually I said screw it and did it as a lamination, I don't like the way that looks but oh well too late now.Anyway here are the pics

Nice pictures of your model, Sincerely I don`t like the Cessna dessign, but the technique is amazing.

Looks pretty good from here - I've got the FG O-1 printed but not started. Done the FG Cessna 152, similar. Spent a lot of time rolling, dry fitting, bending, fitting, crimping, fitting, rolling, dry fitting ... Thought it was not a bad job of design given the 1-piece fuselage constraint. Always seem to have problems with the windscreens though.

BTW - don't like Cheerios or buttons in my models, so I've gone to rolling tires for the FG models from thin strips of plain paper. Cut 4-6" strip to width, roll, and tighten up the wind until it's the right diameter. Glue the outer layer to hold the laminations together, then apply glue the the edges and stick on the wheels.

I spent a year flying in the back seat of olive drab Army L-19 Bird Dogs as a 1st Cavalry Division aerial observer in Korea in 1963 and, later, in Vietnam (1966-67), our Shotgun pilot flew an O-1 out of Vinhbinh Airfield that looked much like yours, including the willy-pete marking rocket pods under the wings. There was also a USAF natural aluminum O-1 at Vinhbinh flown alternately by a USAF pilot (don't remember the pilot's name or his call sign) and an RAAF pilot, Wing Commander Rex Ramsey, call sign Ascot 6. So this build brings back memories.

I'm with Don and Bob, Sidewinder. Looks right must be right. And I too have struggled with some of the fit and proportioning of FG models.
