Begining construction of the tracks...
Thanks everyone for your kind words so far!
Well it's that time! Time to start the tracks... Since I don't have a lot of experience building tracks I thought I'd build a small test section to get my feet wet and to work out any problems that may arise. This small section will eventually be placed on the front of the finished model. Here we go...starting with the printed sheet Removed grouser bars and laminated to an additional thickness of card stock and added some additional detail. Removed guide plates from between the two inside track halves Added a paper tab and glued both inside halves together... Cut out slots for the drive sprockets and began to glue both halves together... finished track section sans grouser bars and guide plates... cutting apart the grouser bars (tapping the single edge razor with a hammer works great for this) Finished section - outside view Finished section - Inside view. Overall the construction process was trouble free... I think the biggest problem will be finding the patients required to finish the job. |

Very nice - I've yet to see a build of this model which uses the origami folding the designer intended.
I think you could drop one thickness of the guide horns though - I can forsee trouble inserting these into the roadwheel pairs and the idlers. Regards, Charlie Last edited by CharlieC; 03-25-2008 at 07:22 AM. |

I have been watching this build and I have concluded that you have gigantic hands. This level of detail is not achievable at 1/50 scale. Super modeling. Jim Nunn

Your skill is, to me, indistinguishable from magic.

Small set back
For a while now I've been slowly working on the tracks. Well, tonight I have to report that my little dog Cooper, God rest his sole (JUST KIDDING!!!) decided to help me out a little bit. He's a great little dog but very mischevious... anyway to make a long story short he chewed up about 8 hours of hard work. Thank goodness it was only one of the two tracks - I guess it could have been a lot worse.
P.S. No dogs were harmed in this build :D |
