One of the reasons the Russians didn't like their T-27 tankettes was that the narrow tracks meant that they bogged easily in snow and mud. A smart tankette driver would avoid mud.

There's a lot of choice:

Italian CV 35/L3
Czech Adamov Vz.33 (there's no model of the Skoda MU-4)
Polish TK3 and TKS
French UE

Unfortunately no 1/25 model of the Japanese Type 94/Type 97

Regards,

Charlie

Are there Japanese Type 94 or Type 97 tankettes or Type 95 light tanks in any scale?

There was a free 1/72 Type 94 offered recently.

GPM published a 1/25 Type 95 Ha Go some years ago. Maly Modelarz published a 1/25 Type 2 Ka Mi (Type 95 chassis) back in 1991.

Charlie

Charlie,

No way! But I'll follow whatever build you put up.
Would the Russian 7TP qualify?

Ummm..... I thought the 7TP was the Polish version of the Vickers E 6-ton tank. The Russian licence built version of this was the T-26. The Russians built thousands of these from 1931 through 1937.

The Vickers tank would be a too heavy to qualify as a tankette. I think the limit would be the Czech Praga IV-H at about 4.5 t.

Charlie

Right on track Charlie, you make it look easy, even at this scale.

Finished....

This post is the wrap up - I'll post images tomorrow so I don't have to use flash on the camera.

The left pannier got me - I had a rush of enthusiasm and forgot that Prudenzio models can't be rushed. Had to cut the pannier off and reglue it on properly- the repair job doesn't look too awful. The headlights were beyond my abilities to build in card - cheated by using unprocessed paper (wood) - turned the headlight shapes on a Dremel - I think I might use this technique again - looks a lot better than the usual glued sections.

Overall I think I liked this model - the fit is generally very good although it would a hard model to build in the as designed 1/35 scale.

I recently bought David Fletcher's book on British tanks between the wars. The Prudenzio model is of a Mk VIA tankette - only small numbers of these were delivered to the British army. More common was the Mk VIB with modified suspension. IMHO this version would be easier to model than the VIA.

I think Zio Prudenzio only designed one other military vehicle - a 1/35 Kubelwagen - if that is as good as the Mk VI it would be worth finding.

Regards,

Charlie

Charlie,

Thats not cheating thats just building a better model. Don't tell anyone this but I've been doing this on any model that I am going to put in a contest. They ding you for seam lines.

Nice sunny day in Brisbane.....

Here are the images - as usual the digital fault finder (camera) found lots of flaws in the model. I've also compared the tankette to the Grant model to emphasise how small these vehicles were.

Charlie
