Thanks for this resource. I really need some help on the top rail of the mk iv! I know it should be obvious, but I just don't see it. The the top rail fold over like an L? And flatten on the ends - or does it fold completey over, back to back? Or none of the above and what do you do with the little squares in the middle of the rail? It's all I need to do so help is VERY appreciated.

Try some images of the original Mark IV at http://localhost/landships/tank_arti...g_Mark_IV.html - particularly the images of Lodestar III at Brussels.
You're right the rail for the unditching beam is an "L" cross section but the rail isn't just wrapped around the top of the tank. It narrows at the rear and is attached by a couple of flanges to the inside of the track frames at the front. Regards, Charlie |

Thanks Charlie!
I love the landships web pages and also have the Osprey Mk IV book. My read of the 'real' rail is the same as yours - Upside down L flatten at the ends. The paper rails included with the fiddler green model just don't make sense to me - if made as an L rail it is too broad at the top with extra bits. I guess I could go free lance with it and just make it as it was -but I sense there is a fold or something to the model I just don't see. |
