Dessy,
Looking good!
The gun likely keeps the spent cartridges (rather than ejecting them) to prevent damage to the airplane. Modern aircraft (even an A-10) are fast enough that the airflow catches the spent cartridges and tumbles them aft along the fuselage - they don't fall clear. The high speed brass doesn't bounce off of that thin aluminum skin - acts more like a chain saw ...

hi yogi, yes, you are perfectly right. the spent brass is collected back up into the ammo drum and off loaded back at base.
he,he good explanation 'chainsaw' if ejected out side the plane

Not that mad...look at the size of the empty casing and work out how much it would hurt if it landed on you, especially if the A-10 is coming in close to a TIC...

Thanks for your comments, Dessy. I feel your pain when it comes to the ammo feed links. Rather you than me, mate. Those tracks you mentioned brought on a nervous twitch, lol.

If that 30 mm hit you, you won't feel a thing. It won't hurt. :D

why is it the most incredible things we design
are also some of the nastiest?

Nobody wants to see this used in warfare,
but this gun IS impressive.

good imput lads, anyone remember 'blackhawk down' where the minigun was dropping hot brass down onto the poor trooper below. just imagine brass the size of what 'airdave' has in his hand raining down on ya .
its a good job the A10 does'nt throw em out!

Dave> thanks for the clip, ya beat me to it. i was thinking of posting a couple. saved me a job . its certainly a frightening beast is'nt it!

will have the front of the plane skinned shortly just finishing the 'letter box' openings for fitting the weapon.
