hi isievert
this is comming along great!
i did the same laminating process on the glock 17 in one of my past posts.
i've always thought of laminating as a great way to build your own 'especially pistols' model. you get that heavier/solid feel when its done
and as you are showing, you can pick your favoured weapon and make it instead of waiting for a kit to pop up and it will also be original!
'
i'll forewarn ya though', the making of the gun is the 'should i say', easy bit. it will be the finishing/paint that will make it. thats where 'mousemuffin' shines. he's got a great way with the paint. thats why i chose the glock because it was black! i'm sure yours will match 'mousemuffins' when finished. great to watch!

Thank you for the views and the input. It makes me want to go home early and finish it. Alas! I can only work on it on weekends so i guess much progress will be seen in two to three days (Friday here today in this part of the world).

@treadhead - I agree the trigger guard should be opened a bit. Thanks.

@dessy/mousemuffins - I am a really big fan of the both of you. I hope I can even come close to what you guys do. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I already have some ideas for the slide. I may attach a small rubber band so it can move like the real thing (racking the slide). I guess, like dessy said, the paint job will make or break the build.

some progress..

the slide prior to gluing/laminating the boards

after gluing

ouch..again it gets nasty before it gets better

After a bit of sanding

Looking better. I may mess this up with a poor paint job. hope not

Looking like a Woodsman

Magazine

Not related to the Woodsman but I think I deserve a break

Thanks for viewing.

This is about as clever as clever gets! All you need is a better class of beer!

Lookin' way too cool!

But I would have to agree with CD, need to get a better beer, Dos Equis, Grolsch, something that doesn't say "Light" on the side of it.

CD and Treadhead, I admit I could have done better with the beer but I have a case of these as a gift so I have to drink some. The beer brands you mentioned are not readily available in the Philippines....don't worry, when this Woodsman is done, I'll have an appropriate drink

Ok so what I did this afternoon were the slide stop and magazine details. I began with the template for the slide stop and built on from there..

This was just based on the 1:1 Woodsman template that I have since I could not get the exact dimensions..in English it's called "approximation", in our dialect it's called "mata-mata" or literally "eye-eye" - taking measurements from the eyes....moving on...

Shaped and fit on the safety notch

Also fits the open chamber(?) notch. Don't know exactly what it's called.

Drilled a hole for the slide stop. I'm going to use a bamboo toothpick for this

Sanded and toothpick in place

The Magazine. The Woodsman 10-round magazine has a follower/button to help in loading the magazine. You can lower it to make loading easier. so this is what I'm going to simulate. Since I didn't think about it when I started building the magazine, and I don't want to make a new one I just had to make do with the existing one.

Punched these out at 7mm

This is how it should look like

Since the magazine is hollow I had to put scrap board inside for the next step

Punched two holes there

I'm happy with that

Slowly getting there. Safety on and magazine inside

Open chamber and magazine released

@Frederico - Sir, my tip for you would be to plan ahead and make some drawings before starting anything. I could have avoided some mistakes had I prepared well. The past builds of the veteran paper modelers are also very instructive and very inspiring. Search "mousemuffins" and "dessy" in the forum. Super! Good luck with your AK. If I ever get the courage to make a rifle I'd do an M1 Carbine. Good luck sir!
