Shilka - for those seeking a "challenge"

If you like ill fitting, mislabeled parts and confusing instructions, this model is for you!

While I'm glad this project is done, I did develop a fondness for this piece of armor overall.

Looks like it came out very nicely anyway. With that kind of introduction to the model, perhaps you could give a bit of information on the kit and where it's from?

I guess that's the Fly Model 1/25 Shilka - must be a fairly old model (90s?).

Of more interest is the grey tank beside the Shilka - looks like an M3 Stuart I (needed to see the additional image at the Z-place) - didn't know there was a published model of that.

Regards,

Charlie

Both the Shilka and M3 Stuart are Fly Model kits. Both are hand drawn. Both are from the 90's.

I have yet to build a Fly Model kit that doesn't have some kind of issue. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

Regards,

Greg

Charlie,
I think the Stuart may be the Fly model kit?

Greg,
You have a lot more commitment to the cause than I think I could muster. The final product looks just fine, though. Congratulations!

That's good to see. What was the Stuart like to build? I've got that one and been debating starting on it...

The Stuart was a better build than the Shilka if memory serves me right.

The tracks are OK on it except that the guide plates are not very rigid.

I do remember that the armor plate around the gun was to be backed with another piece to add color but I left it off and painted the back instead.

I used this approach on some of the Shilka parts too, otherwise they would have been too thick and cumbersome to install.

Being more interested with the modern armor kits... I was hoping to hear that the Flymodel models were 'buildable'. I have a few Flymodel kits that I have aquired over time and have yet to build.

Good build on the Shilka though!

Is that a "Hemi" in the background there?

And a real 'Hemi' - not the semi-hemispherical configuration with the trademarked, but not deserved 'hemi' name...

Actually, the new 'hemi' is a nice combination of the old Chrysler 'hemi' and the 'wedge' motors - so I like to refer to the modern version as the 'wedgie' :D
