Some small progress, the tension wheel in complete and mounted. With the exception of the inner axle tube which was a bit long and had an overlap (better than a gap), all other parts fit exactly or pretty close to it. The black tread part is most definitely painted a grimy black color as the printer was having issues with black when this page printed out.
I am now mired in cutting out drive sprocket parts with their complex shape... greg

Some more progress to report: The drive sprockets, road wheels and idler wheels are finished.
The drive sprockets were a pain to cut out, but my trusty japanese screw punch saved the day on many of the curved areas to facilitate sprocket removal from page. After that the assembly built up rather nicely. The road wheels were constructed in the same way as the tension wheels. One note here is I should have cut the center discs a bit oversize as the outer wrap overlapped when gluing in place. this caused the outer wheel ID's to be too big in comparison. I got it all to work in the end but thought you may need a heads up if you build this one. The idler wheels fit spot on. Some craft "suede" color paint and poly s grimy black acrylic hide the evil white parts. greg

The wheels look great Greg
I especially like the drive sprockets - they turned out awesome. Can't wait to see more. |

OK so looking at this model along with pictures of Clashters build, my GPM Lee and the actual tank, I found an error on my tank that I cannot fix at this stage. While I will disclose it here, I'll let the rivet counters elsewhere in the dark for them to figure it out for themselves.
Some how or another I ended up with the hull turret gun mounted too low. I don't know if it was me not paying attention, incorrect build diagrams or incorrectly marked parts. The only way to tell would be to tear it all apart and I ain't gonna do that. So, when or if you build this tank keep the turret configuration in mind when you do. The mountings for the top and bottom of the turret are different sizes so you need to be cognizant of orientation at all times to get it right. Evidently I had a lapse of cognitive ability at this stage of the build... Meanwhile I am currently mired in cutting out bogie parts. I will probably be mired in this for a few days so please be patient as I don't really think a picture of a pile of bogie parts would be very interesting. greg

As I'm working through Bogie construction all has gone well except for one issue that is most definitely not my fault. The side pieces are marked 65G for right side and 65H for left. The problem is that 65H is printed exactly like G instead of the mirror image it should be. I am building 65H inside out to get it to fit correctly which means I get to paint a big white area. Hope my paint color choice is good for large areas...
On a side note, I also have to perform surgery on these parts to get them to fit as the lamination I've done is a little too thick and the wrap around tails for parts 65 G & H are not positioned correctly. Cut the tails and paint some edges and everything works out in the end. greg

So what I thought were spare track sections were not. They are needed in the main track lengths to close the gap between the two main track sections for each side. Summary: each side has one long, one not as long, and one short section.
These tracks were SO much easier to build than GPM's Lee tracks and they fit so much better! As is my usual process, I painted the track parts to improve their look. Then I dirtied them up a little with Tamiya weathering "makeup." As you may know I don't care a whole lot for painting but almost always make exceptions for wheels and tracks since they usually look unrealistic without to my eye. Anyway here are some pictures. greg
