1/16 scale RC cardboard T-95/T-28 "Doom Turtle"
I have decided to go ahead try to build the (from what I can tell) first large scale T-95 “Doom Turtle” in cardboard. I am going to use good old pizza boxes for this build. I am also going to build this in two steps: Step 1 is to make the internal body of the machine and Step 2 is to make the outer removable tracks.
I have gone ahead and started construction on the hull but it is only the inside hull without the extra tracks so it will look more like the second image until I get the extra tracks... But any way, here's what I've got so far. Note: The hull is only held together by masking tape for the photo. I will use my normal glue for a permanent bond. |

The T-28 or more commonly known as the T-95 was a prototype super heavy tank designed to breach the heavily fortified Siegfried line. The tank is extremely well armored with up to 12” of frontal armor to block shell from tanks like the Tiger II and Jagdtiger. As well as this impressive armor the tank was armed with a very good 105mm gun that could penetrate a Tiger I from the front. However this impressive armor and armament comes at a price, the tank could only reach speeds of 8MPH and with its fixed turret it is prone to getting flanked. The tank has earned the nick name Doom Turtle in both World of Tanks and War Thunder.

That's why it is dragging an extra set of tracks/bogies. If the ground got too soft it would need to attach the extra set. Which then made the tank even heavier, and too wide to negotiate many of the old town roads encountered in Europe. The long gun didn't help it to go around corners either. Sometimes bigger is not always better, particularly with tanks.

Some more parts under construction... The gun gun mantlet with a dummy gun (To test to see if my gun cradle will work) as well as the gun cradle which still in prototype phase. The last photo is the barrel of the 50.cal machine gun that will be placed on the commanders hatch.
