World of Tanks M4A3E8

This is my first build in 160 gsm paper, a departure from my usual paper preference of 80 gsm. Though the front transmission part was a bit finicky at first, I managed to glue it on after a little while.

I'll be updating this thread, so stay tuned if you want!

Cheers

The turret. I've attempted to make the mantlet but it turned out to be quite of a pain since my scissors aren't the best at doing small holes, so I've left it to the side for now.

Try using an exacto knife, once you get used to it, it makes cutting things a lot easier.

The turret looks good.

Small holes are a challenge. As Mike says, a sharp Number 11 or similar craft knife blade is easier than scissors, and you may wish to consider a screw punch, which is an initial expense but can't be beat for holes less than 5mm in diameter. You can also purchase sets of individual punches.

I bought mine from Dick Blick (Aitoh Hand Paper Drill | BLICK Art Materials) but if you Google "brass paper punch" you will get a lot of different types.

Someone else in the Forum may know of a better screw punch, but I have been well satisfied with mine.

Don

An idea which has appeared on this forum over the years is to use dermal punches for small holes. These are disposal medical items which are designed to punch out skin biopsies. I think they are in 1mm to 10mm diameters and are very sharp. I've no personal experience with them but it's an option.

Regards,

Charlie

A handy trick for using the book punch that Don talked about, is to line up the hole with a circle template then use the punch through the hole, I have found using mark-one-eyeball is inviting a miss of where you are punching.

Yea, verily. This is the template I use for that purpose.

Thanks for all the tips! I'll keep all of them in mind for next time.

Anyway here's the progress so far. I found another pair of scissors hidden somewhere that were more reliable since they had thinner blades, and I was satisfied with the end result of round two.

When I printed out the barrel, the colour of the muzzle brake had a slight pinkish tint to it (i'll have to get new printer cartridges haha), but I just dismissed it as inconsequential.

I may do the suspension tomorrow!
