Automated paper casting machines
Dear Paper modelers
I am having difficulty resourcing techniques and equipment able to rapidly produce simple paper cast objects. I am interested in producing books covers like the rendered design I have attached to this post. I had success recently paper casting the same cover into plaster molds, but, the process is too long. I need something better. What is out there? Makhoe |

Embossed wire mesh would be my first suggestion. It's what they use for egg cartons et c. With some searching you should be able to find mesh/screen in a vast array of finenesses (is that a word?) Possibly even using two layers -a coarse more rigid mesh for basic shapes and support and a fine mesh for detail. I know from an industrial silkscreen experiment years ago that you can get stainless steel meshes down to 300 wires per inch (which handles much like a nice broadcloth except that the cut edges will slice you open<G>)

When you used the plaster molds, how did you press the paper stock into the mold? Did you use any weights or machines?
I, also am hoping to learn more about paper casting |

Where could I find this, do you know if it's available in small quantities?

We bought it by the yard, but I don't recall where or how much (it was expensive) but we needed it to screenprint a compound that would have eaten normal mesh.
