I'm really enjoying this thread and the opportunity to relive my attempt on this model a few years back. So far, I don't see any change in the problem areas (other than those of our own creation...), but the printing of the new version has improved significantly, with better color (especially the metallic ink), more subtle panel lines, and so on. It looks like Modelik added a few features that weren't there before -- like some engine detailing, extra LG detail, etc. The overall design, warts and all, appears to be unchanged; but some of the finishing details and coloration have been improved. And that's what can really beef up the final impression!

Did the pilot survive the crash? His crew chief did a magnificent job of rebuilding the bird.

Would anyone who has this printing of this kit break it out and do me a favour.

See if you can find parts #45 and 46 anywhere. They are the parts that make up the propeller hub. 46 may well be a petal ended tube.
Either I lost them, which is possible, but not that likely, or they weren't included, which is slightly less likely, but would make me feel marginally better about myself.

Worst case is that I steal a prop from Marek's Skyrocket which looks really good anyway.

It may be different in the later version of this kit, but in mine the prop hub was a short rolled tube (about 3/16" long, 3/32" OD) that fit over the end of the propeller shaft. Nothing elaborate -- just a small silver rectangle to roll up.

Parts 45 and 46 are indeed the propeller shaft and the propeller hub cover. Hopefully the attached photo will be sufficient to scratch up the replacement parts.

That answers all of my questions. On the newer printing that's where the tailwheel strut is located, so maybe it did get skipped in the reprint.

Here she is all done.
I managed to cobble together a hub and use the kit's propeller.

The canopy was a little bit of a challenge. The razor back section sat too high to line up with the windscreen, so I had to slice it free and reset it lower. My fault, I missed a fold line to snug it down tight enough. The windscreen didn't cover up the odd bulkhead joint as much as I would have liked, so fitting that better would definitely be a priority for anyone building this one.

All in all a pretty satisfying build. Not a lot of detail, but a nice representation of the original.
