This is what I'm talking about GPM's freebie. Would anyone like to try if he doesn't mind wasting his time?

To show you the GPM freebie - D4Y2 Judy, here it is. You'll notice how much modification is needed to shape the engine cowling. The nose cone is ugly - I give up.

Looking at the 3-view I have of this aircraft, I can see the bulges missing from the cowling above the exhaust pipes. The bulges are only very slightly larger than the exhaustpipes themselves. The cowling itself, seen front-on is an hourglass shape, which the kit has not replicated. you should be seeing (--) |O| (--) which the kit does not reproduce. This would also account for why the cowling itself is distorted in the final model as shown here. I don't think the results you show can be accounted for by "builder's error". I feel the errors are in the kit itself. The way I'd choose to fix it would be to build the aircraft as a late war 1944 variant, which was powered by a Kinsei Radial engine. In this scale, a Homare Radial could as easily be substituted. Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell. Last edited by Uyraell; 06-21-2011 at 12:04 PM. Reason: Typographic error. |

Papermate, how did you do the Zuiun/Paul's floats?

Thanks Uyraell for your expert opinion and comments.
Hi legion, when I did the Zuiun/Paul's float, I first creased all the straight lines on the underside of the float before cutting them out. I added joint tabs and folded them slightly for dry fitting. Then I curved the upper part of the float and glued up the lower part. Held it until set. Hope it's clear. Don't know if I have answered your question. Papermate |

Thanks, but i noticed something is off with yours, the floats are too far apart:

Papermate, you're very welcome.
I hope the little bit of info I gave helps in the next iteration you build. With the actual aircraft the inline engine gave considerable problems, and was never truly up to what would be considered "Service Standards" when in use. Hence, it was replaced by the Kinsei 62 Radial, beginning somewhere around Sept.1943. The Kinsei itself was the IJN version of the IJAF Homare Radial, if memory serves me correctly. At any rate, converting the kit to a Radial-Engined version is a valid option which resolves the cowling issues the kit itself raises. Genial and Respectful Regards Papermate, Uyraell. |

Thanks Uyraell and especially to legion for pointing out my mistake about the postion of the floats. I'll fix it to correct my oversight.

No. 25 is re-fixed thanks to legion's observation about the wrong positioning of the floats. They were too far apart. Thus I removed them and took the opportunity to add in lead weights and re-positioned them appropriately. Now it is no longer a tail sitter and looks more like it.

That looks way better. Glad to have been of service. If you kept those floats that far apart on the real plane, it would have collapsed...
