So, its time to wrap this one up...
I think I am done with this kit.

Only thing i know of still to do, is colour in the blank spots for the wingtip lights.
There must be small parts for there(?) but I can't find 'em.

I did up some extra armaments, ditched the belly Fuel tank (so to speak)
and decided against the double Missile mounts since i had already glued the
little connectors on to all the pylons.

To be honest, I'm not thrilled with these Missiles...
I think the AGM Mavericks are kinda crappy looking.
(I've seen better paper designs)

but the A-10 sure looks incomplete without armaments
(I guess because of all the pylons).

Worked out a simple stand made from foamcore...I just need to print up some side laminates to pretty it up.
Might be a simple design that I could use again on other models.

Not my favorite build...definitely not my worst.
Love the scale and size of the model.
Might even try a bigger one!

For those who want to know, the finished measurements are:
Wingspan 21.5" [546mm]
Length 20" [508mm]

Its not a kit for beginners...but its a good learning experience for those who want to take the plunge into a Maly kit.
Only real complaint I have is the real lack of instructions and diagrams.
Its a big guessing game.

I'm no expert, but feel free to ask questions if you get stuck with the same model.

Well.. your A-10 looks awsome to me, Dave!

Congratulations on the build!

Yes, there are many oops on the Maly kid, but you cannot deny it is a very good one. I think Maly was beginning to make sure they use the Computer Technology correctly on their models, as you know, it is the same as the other 2 Old A-10s from Maly.

Learning experience? INDEED!!! LOL

Hum.. question... how can I be honoured with the stand design?

Oh, and the blank spots on the tip wings.. I just painted them with green and red markers, nothing fancy.

Just read the whole thread. Nice work Dave. That plane is huge! The cockpit looks great. 2 months after 9/11 I was flying a Piper Warrior upand down the Hudson, up by Croton's Point when an A-10 pulled up next to me, He tilted his wings, I switched to Unicom and he asked me "What my intentions were?", I replied, "To do whatever you tell me to", He told me to go to a heading of "due East" and remain away from that spot for a 10 mile radius (not far from West Point, and Stewart Air Force Base). I flew straight back to Danbury Airport. With head phones on, and all of the engine noise in that Piper, I could still hear that jet next to me. Apparently a Notam was issued about 15 minutes after I took off, to stay clear of that area, so I had not caught it. In the air, right next to you, asking you what you "your intentions are", that A-10 was one of the scariest looking aircraft I have ever seen. Every single time I see an A-10 (picture or otherwise), that experience pops back into my head. Probably Post Traumatic A-10 Stress Syndrome.

Done a great job there dave and the stand makes the plane look like its on its way back up just after a straffing run, its just short of some chaf flying out of the back! like they usually do.

Zathros> Great story, could'nt stop giggling. bet it was'nt funny at the time though. good one mate.

well, the praise is appreciated but really not necessary for this build.
trust me, however good you think this looks in the pics, its just an average build
and my usual impatient cutting corners approach!

but thanks anyway.

yes, I do like the position on the stand...only thing missing is a Pilot figure! lol

I am scanning the parts for the base/stand so i can make up some side plates.
When I get a pattern sorted out, I'll post it here for anyone interested.

For those of you who asked about the Stand I made for this plane,
here is a download.

The stand is cut from ordinary black on black foam core board.
(The PDF has the cutting template for the four parts)

Just glue together with white glue (PVA)

And there are two side plates that attach.
Print them out as is (sky blue fade)
or modfiy them in your graphics program.

The aircraft model just sits on the two wing supports
and can't slide backwards.

The provided template is large enough for 1/33 and bigger aircraft
and you can scale the template down to fit any size model.

Also, if you vary the width of the two cross parts, you can make it fit
your model more precisely.

Simple Aircraft Model Stand

should I post this somewhere else, or is this good enough?

Unless you absolutely want to use megaupload, it could go in the download section here.
