Micro ZIO planes at 1/588

To fit in the dioramic scene of the Scharnhorst at the Ship thread, I have built micro planes, 5 of them by ZIO and one from the www.303Squadrongame.com. Only two of the German planes are given a treat to show comparatively more details as it is quite difficult to do more satisfactory close ups with my camera Lumix. Perhaps I'll change camera to do a bit more later on.

I wholeheartedly agree with Magrava...superb and tremendous work!

And they DO look like a mecho version of an insect collection, in a sci-fi sort of way.
I think Ray ("Texman") would love these little fellas....

Thanks for sharing photos of this superb work with all of us!

Cheers!

Thanks, guys. To be honest, I wasn't sure that I could make it when I began. But finishing one after another, I somewhat got the trick. Some modifications have to be made to the original plan to make things simpler like joining some parts by photoshop before cutting them out.

Just curious, when making models this small what weight paper do you like to work with? I normally use 65 pound paper (about 176 gm/m2), but occassionally I use simple bond, around 20 pound (75 gm/m2), for really small stuff.

Cheers!

Started with 80 gsm paper but finally down to 60 gsm which makes it tidier and easier. But 60 gsm paper is hard to get.

Thanks, Papermate!

And do you eliminate the tabs when building? I tend to do that because the tabs normally don't help much in construction, and become a bit cumbersome to fold and add thickness that is not desired in most joints. Butt joints are normally what I prefer at the smaller scales...but then my experience is mostly in making ship models so I would love to know what you do in making aircraft builds where making wings and fuselage are different from building up a hull with superstructure and deck fittings....

Cheers!

Amazing! I assume you have some sort of magnifying lens in order to do these. Is it one on a stand? or on a headband? or in the form of glasses? If you are doing this without a magnifying lens, that would really be amazing.
