FG Mustang 1/400
Hi,
I started this last night by loading Chip's BW version of the P-51 into CAD and scaling it to 1/400. A HB lead pencil is the silver gray coloring to make the "invasion stripes" stand out. The wheels I made could use another layer of cereal box cardboard. The propeller looks out of proportion to the nose cone to me. It's a one piece propeller with an inner circle diameter that doesn't reach the nose cone edge by 2.5mm. So, I'm going to have to do an enlarged one sometime in the future. Jeff |

Nice work. It's very hard to believe that this airplane is in 1/400 scale!

1/400, you have to be kidding. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see the ruler. Fantastic work.

You guys amaze me. The phrase 'started last night' amazes me further. First-rate build at a diminutive scale, and that quickly. My hat is off to you, sir.

Make it twice as big (1/200 scale) and it would be perfect for the Wings of Glory game.

I have a hard time doing that good of job in 1/72nd. This is absolutely fantastic!

That HB pencil can make quite a decent silver. Very interesting!

Thanks for the comments,
If you do the math, I made a mistake. The scale is 1/200. I double checked with my CAD drawing. I drew a 1" line, divided the line into 200 units. Then marked off 1', 10', then worked up to 37' which is the wingspan of the P-51. Measuring the 1/200th line and it comes out to be close to 2-1/4". I'm really rotten at numbers... it took three times for me to pass physics with all those formulas & calculations. Jeff |
