1/72 Yokosuka B4Y1 "Jean"
I haven't done a build thread for an aircraft in awhile, much less completed one. So we will see how this goes. I bought the model from JB's web site (jb models), though it can also be purchased from Ecardmodels.
For a 1/72 model, I was impressed by the amount of detail included, and the options for easier construction. Graphics IMO are top notch, with nice clear diagrams.. Definitely a bargain at that price I think. Haven't done anything this small, so it will be interesting to see if I can complete it.. As slow as I build it won't be quick.. Here you can see my printout of the model..Really like how there's a section of carrier decking for display.. nice touch!! Parts... Diagrams... |

I have this one. It looks likea great model and I am very pleased to see that you are building it, Peter. You have the skill and experience to do it justice.
Incidentally, this aircraft was in the operational force at least as late as the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Eight B4Y1 Type 96 torpedo bombers constituted the Hōshō air group, commanded by Lieutenant Irikiin Yoshiaki, which accompanied the main body of the Japanese fleet. Captain Umetani Kaoru’s Hōshō task force (the carrier plus destroyer Yūkaze) served as a scouting force and following the battle, the observer in one of Hōshō’s B4Y1s took the famous photographs of aircraft carrier Hiryū aflame. The source for this is Admiral Nagumo’s after action report, cited (among other places) in Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully, Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway, Washington, DC: Potomac Books, 2005, p. 355, (and Order of Battle p. 453) and H. P. Willmott, The Barrier and the Javelin: Japanese and Allied Pacific Strategies, February to June 1942, Annapolis, MD: Naval Institute Press, 1983, p. 496. See also http://midway1942.org/order.shtml I can’t help but think there is some kind of display possibility here using a recolored B4Y1 model (I have no idea what the Hōshō air group markings would have been), a modified version of CdrTed’s Hōshō, and a Yūkaze derived from the Answer Mutsuki or the Gremir Nagatsuki (since it would appear there is enough similarity among the Minekaze, Kamikaze, and Mutsuki classes to make this possible (http://smmlonline.com/articles/minekaze/minekaze.html). Sorry for rambling, but my mind just started making these connections. I am very much looking forward to seeing your build take shape, Peter. Don |

Good work on the cockpit. Looks like about the right amount of detail for 1/72 and mortal human beings. Nice precise work on your part.

Oh, I have deja vu :D
Thank You for kind review! On this formers I see that will be clean and pleasant to wachting build, looking forward next pics! I have one notice, You layered instrument panels unnecessarily. There are ** only on white rectangles, see renders also, there You can see thickness of this elements. If panels don't protrude in cockipits holes in skinning its ok |

Here I've added more cockpit details, and started skinning her from front to back. Really like the shading and weathering of the graphics. Any mistakes are of my doing, and not the fault of the designer.. |
