Thank you Leif. I am going to commit a bit of heresy, at least among the paper purists, by mating the paper interior and engine to a plastic fuselage for an upcoming competition.

Your Clerget is far more detailed that any 1/72 version in plastic. It should really make the cowling "pop" with that lovely detail you engineered into the model.

I'll post a thread on the work as soon as I get started.

Leif, thank you for all your work.

Don't know when (if) I will ever get to this. My plan is to rescale to 1/25th to go with my vehicle models and various other engines I have. Then maybe I can get my head around just how this thing operates being basically a reciprocating engine man that still struggles somewhat with understanging a Mazda rotary were its only the piston (sort of) rotates.

Thanks guys for all the input. Looking forward to see what you will be doing with it.

Bengt, thanks for the suggestions. A 1/16 version of the Triplane is a very good idea. It will be a challenge to apply the learning of texturing the Fi-1 on a fabric & wood version of the prototype Triplane, together with the two painted versions already there in 1/32 (N5486 and N5912; the only original Triplanes preserved).

As for the Clerget, the Pup engine was a Le Rhône and the experience of that certainly went into the present Clerget model. The real start of the Clerget, however, would have been the adapting of Richard Schulten's 7-cylinder version to the 9-cylinder Clerget of the MM Camel kit.

The present version is more fine-tuned, better textured, and more true-to-scale. The "Beta version" label is because I couldn't put a photo of a built version of this, the kitted version on the cover.

Anybody who builds the kit in 1/16 and takes a decent photo of the result will get his or her name and the photo (of the engine) published (prominently and in big size) on the cover.

Any faults reported will be amended. After that I'll remove the "Beta" label. Looking forward to that very much! - Leif

Well, that's rather scalist isn't it now? I think I feel discriminated against!

Flyboy - I am sure that Leif would be delighted to see a fully-detailed paper Clerget rotary engine in 1/144 scale, especially if it was mounted in a 1/144 scale Sopwith triplane. Ever thine, Dogface

Hello Sir Leif, I really enjoyed this version of the engine. Everything in the kit was very well planned. I had no issues with it. These pics are of the 1/16 th kit by itself and along side of the 7 cyl model. I tried to relabel the stand by hand drawing the number to make the 9 B. I also used scrap telephone wire ( the ones inside the cord ) to make the push rods. I look forward to seeing what you have planned next.

Hello Asroc,

and thank you very much for confirming that the kit does go together without problems. That meant a lot to me.

For those not familiar with the Richard Schulten 7-cylinder version, we should say that it is in 1/11 scale, while the 9-cylinder version you've built is smaller, 1/16 scale. That explains why the 7-cylinder version appears larger in your photos. If built in the same 1/16 scale, it would in fact look pretty much the same size, or slightly smaller diameter.

I'm glad you like the kit. Thanks for the pretty photos. Quite fanciful choice of colors there for the pushrods, wouldn't you say? Looks very decorative, albeit just a tad unrealistic perhaps... but pretty!

Leif

PS. You aren't really 220 miles up on any orbital platform, are you? Or...?

Thank You Leif, I was thinking that if i ever get around to put the engine in a plane, the cowling would set the push rods off as well as the colorful squadron markings i seen in reference.
