Curtiss Tomahawk IIB (P-40C) - Halinski

Now that I have completed the Nakajima KI-84, and my build of the Focke Wulf 190 A-8 is nearing its final stages - I felt that it was time to get another one going (for some reason, I like having two builds at the same time in different stages of completion).
In sifting through my ever growing collection of model kits, I have decided that my next build is going to be a model that I just recently acquired - the Curtiss P-40C (Tomahawk Mk IIB) from Halinski. The kit comes in two variants:

1. Tomahawk Mk IIB AK402/GA-F from Division 112 RAF, P/O Neville Duke - Egypt, November 1941
2. Tomahawk Mk IIB AK498/LD-C from Division 250 RAF, F/L Clive Caldwell - Libya, December 1941

I will be building the version with Neville Duke's markings. I have attached some images of the kit itself, and soon I will commence the build and share my photo-documentation with everyone.

It should be another very enjoyable build! I actually became very interested in modeling this particular aircraft when I saw in the news recently that a Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk (RAF - with the same desert camouflage) was found in the Sahara desert - almost completely intact after 70 years! Here's a link to an article about it:

Having built the older kit of a later p-40, I can say you are going to enjoy it. Is the one you are building the shark-mouthed one?

Yes- it is the shark mouthed version. My 4 year old son urged me to do that version because he obviously thought it was "cooler". I guess it is much cooler...

OK. Here goes...and let's hope I don't really screw something up along the way. Once again, I am starting with the cockpit section. In this case, the cockpit deck has an arcing curve shape to it, so the kit includes a framework that is to be constructed simply to hold this shape (frames K1-K5)- to be discarded later. This is where I began, and then proceeded to adhere the deck to it.

This will be "must follow" build.. That's a great idea with the frame for keeping the shape of the cockpit decking aligned.
