Very nice view, Miles. And what an orderly way of towing down the gliders of the club. Fixed tow-down points, and three of them for each aircraft. When I last visited a scene like that, it was old tyres on one wing tip, aircraft leaned with the low wing towards the prevailing wind. They must really take pride in what they do there.
Gliders almost vintage, too, wouldn't you say. A variety of Schweizers, two-seaters and single-seaters, yes? Thanks for the photo of the runway. You've got to be a pretty good pilot to get off there with the tow plane. And getting back with the glider. If that is the whole length you're showing us... I enjoyed this visit, with you. - Leif |

Dear Lief:
The Pictures are of the for lack of a better word the taxi way to the runway. the run way is a little wider and at right angles to what I showed. still grass and with the same trees at the end. I will go back on a weekend to see if I can get some action shots, if there is any interest in more pictures. Thanks, MILES |

Ah..., thought it was a bit cramped. It would be possible to land a glider there, if you're good, but taking off on tow is another thing. - L.

Cambria
I am still lurking, watching these glider threads.
Miles, nice up close and personal pictures of the many Schweizer sailplanes. Leif , if I may jump in here to help clairify the layout of the field. The attached satellite view should say it all. Waddy, in the Sim, go to Smith field 79NY, for Cambria, Nothing there except the grass strip. BTW, in simulation I flew from Harris Hill to Cambria in a sailplane, it took the better part of 4 hours. Slow speed of the sailplane, zig zagging grabbing thermals and head winds made it a long trip. Much fun. John

Hey we need to revive this thread so....Leif, how about you doing your treatment to Aarons Wampir II? Would love to build a 1/11 scale of it to go with your other great gliders......Rich

I've been thinking about doing another glider. It's kinda nice to draw the fuselage and wings... and be done... instead of worrying about engines and complicated landing gear.
I just need ideas for an oddball glider. |
