WWI Planes w/engines and Bionic Modeler's Rib Wing Effect
So it's been awhile since I posted. Reading about Bionic Modeler's rib wing effect inspired me to build a couple of WWI planes . . . . well that and watching Fly Boys again.
I like to build in 1/72 scale, so I downloaded Prudenziati's Nieuport 17 and Fokker Dr1 from here: Zioprudenzio - aerei di carta - paper airplanes I also took inspiration from Lief and wanted to do a more detailed engine that would actually spin, so I downloaded Robert Schulten's 9 cylinder Le Rhone and Oberusel Ur II models from here: -Engines WWI - Paperwarbirds Here's the Le Rhone, reduced to 1/72nd scale- a little rougher than I would have liked, but most of it will be hidden behind the cowl. The flattened fuselage. The "assembled" fuselage showing from lower left in clockwise order: engine backing/firewall (scratch built), engine cowl, 9 cylinder Le Rhone engine, pilots seat, and propeller. More to come later today! Last edited by vbsargent; 09-20-2012 at 10:58 AM. |

Looking forward to it. When you do the wings post a build thread. Maybe you can make it more easily understood. Some didn't understand even though I tried to make it clear.

Victor - Although the images did not show up in the thread for some reason, I was able to use the URLS to go to Photobucket to view them. They look very good, and I look forward to seeing more in the future. Don

Thanks much for the link to the site - the Nieuport you are building is exactly the version I want to make as well. I'll watch your build intently.
Just to let you know, the Fiddlersgreen DH2 has a detailed engine, which I built at 1/72 scale (my scale as well). It's about 39 parts - a card model it of itself. Given that, it is still not all that hard to build. I included a picture of the engine for your info.
