F4F-3 Wildcat - Kartonowy Arsenal
The F4F Wildcat was the US Navy fighter in the Pacific up to 1943, when he started to be replaced by another Grumman cat - F6F Hellcat. First Wildcat version entered service in December 1940.
The model aircraft belongs to USS Yorktown's VF-3 squadron. This specific aircraft was shot down in May 1942, in the Coral Sea battle. At the moment doing a short break from the scratch building the F-80 Shooting star, because of a computer crash. Need time to recover. The model is 1-33 scale, and first impression is of a good design and color printing. Model design have the fuselage parts bonded to each other by direct bonding of the formers. Personally I don't prefer this method, and replaced 2 formers (12a, 13a) with tabs. The cockpit was inserted, detailing planed for a later stage. The fuselage includes two bars that provide location and angle for the wings bonding. The wing frame was bonded directly to the fuselage, with the wing skin bonded to the frame and fuselage. I have this kit too. It looks like you're off to a good start.
It does seem quite a basic kit for a Halinski. Though the front and rear covers have some great artwork. Tim |

Hello all,
Thanks to all for stopping by, and especially to - yaelb, Tim Crowe, Paperwarrior, Leif Ohlsson, Isaac, MacSongLi, YOAVHOZMI and Don Boose, for the encouraging comments. I know that the landing gear will be a joy to scratch build, and started to google for reference pictures. In the process I have found two interesting pictures: First, is an F4F in the model's color, from Airlines.net Second is a profile of this model, taken from http://www.aviationgraphic.com/372-607/372-607.jpg Shalom Mor |
