Bruno,
Thanks for doing one of my Loachs. 800 was pretty much used up by the time I joined my unit. She was used as a "Skeeter" trainer and an admin run ship. For some reason she was always a great little performer. Probably because she wasn't loaded down with ammo, "smokes" and extra armor plate. FYI I never recall flying a loach with the doors on. We just put the doors on when on the ground to keep the dust and rain out. When I got "in country" many of the last 3 serials numbers were not painted in yellow as was the order. I and a few other "Skeeter" pilots would go around and fly just a little too low. One of my fav things was to hover over formations of S. Vietnam troops in formation at the ARVN fire bases where we refueled to cool the poor guys off. Pretty soon the order came down to get the last 3 yellow!! Here is the web page for my old unit. The guy has fallen behind in updating it. I sent him my pics and info a few weeks ago but so far he hasn't added it. W a r l o r d s, B Co 123rd Avn Bn, Aero Scout, Warlord Thanks again Bruno. You and everyone else here are great. It is so much better now than when I stepped off the "Freedom Bird" on Dec 23, 1970 to a crowd of demonstrators flashing peace signs and singing anti war slogans. Trust me I was always for peace too. It is just at that time in my life I thought that going to Vietnam was the best way to achieve it. Now I know better. But to my dying day I will always feel that what I and so many others did there led more or less directly to the fall of the Berlin Wall and all the hope and possibilities that we have today. OK. Off my soapbox and back to my "Val"..
