Exclamation Wing structure

The main ingredients here are to build the landing gear bays and then I added the wood ( coffee stir sticks ) wing spars. The rest of the kit card frames are used however, I discarded the forward card spar.

The landing gear bay
has additional parts in the flooring compared with the previously built Mig-15 version.

And here is the assembly of the bays and the wing spars.

I added the landing gear strut pivot shaft to the bay. It is attached to the wood spars and will be super strong later on. When done, I trimmed the extra wood pieces off.

the kit's rear card spar is added to assist in the shaping.

To me this was important as I previously built the Hobby Model Mig-17 ( Lim-5 ) and after a while the wings started bending up and it looked like a stupid Mig.

Now, this method will insure that the wings will not bend up.

Interesting. Thank you for the link. I did see another build somewhere in which the person, made a nose section and then used a grinding wheel to shape the nose interior. The only problem is to match the color. But in silver, it is probably easier.

Thank you

I was thinking that maybe they should sell vacuformed intakes and nose sections for complicated models. Sometimes paper is just not good enough medium for multi rounded surfaces. Its just another step in improvement of the hobby.

Question Wings

The wings are simple one piece that is folded along the leading edge.

The only feature I used is the landing gear bay cut out. For this version, I did not build the optional flaps.

Mig-15 marathon-dscf1678.jpgMig-15 marathon-dscf1679.jpg

One addition that I added is a piece of card on top of the landing gear bay.

The finishing part is the wing to fuselage fillet. One piece wrap around.

A bottom view
Mig-15 marathon-dscf1691.jpg
A small kink is showing on the belly of the aircraft. It happened when I reinforced the fuselage skins around the rear spar position. It dried up too fast.

Note:
My disappointment is that the gear bay is too thick for this wing and it forces the rear spar and forward spar to flatten the wing on top and show up thru the upper wing skin.

The lesson learned is to reduce the gear bay depth? Will modify the next Mig-15UTI.

Smile Horizontal fins

The kit provides optional separate elevators to compliment the separate rudders option. I elected not to do it and keep it simple.

Assembly is identical to the first Mig-15 kit.

there is an internal structure that pierces the vertical fin. The horizontal surfaces are one piece folded along the leading edge and then there is a fillet at the intersection of the fins.
