I too was building the Hobby Model F-86 a couple of months ago. However, the build got really messed up and I stopped.

Looking forward to your build and our virtual dogfight.

Have fun

Exclamation Building options

Before starting the build, a decision must be made for the main option and that is : do you want to build the model externally joined, or a split fuselage showing the internal jet engine and exhaust duct. The reason for that is that there is a need for internal skins and structure.

Also, do you want to have the rear air brakes deployed or flush.

In addition, there are the optional flaps in the wings and that requires additional support.

My decision was based on the detail study of this kit and also if adding everything deployed and open, it would interfere with the colorful rendering of this unique Mig-15. Thus, I would keep it simple and not add those features. If you followed this marathon, notice that I already built those on the other Mig-15s.

I am not 100% sure how does the virtual dogfight between the card airplanes looks like, but it sounds like a great fun to me!

All the best with your project Isaac!

Exclamation Fuselage parts

Here are the fuselage sections. Nothing unusual here since the plane is all cylinders and conical segments.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4426.jpg

the sections are rolled and joined.

The jet exhaust is the only part to use from the engine assembly.

Isaac,

Your UTI has fantastic detailing. I'm looking forward to seeing a continuation of your MiG-15 Marathon build.

Exclamation Fuselage aft

I usually build from both front and back and join the fuselage in the center especially if it is rounded

Here is the rear section going forward
Mig-15 marathon-img_4432.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4433.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4434.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4435.jpg

Since there is no engine built, I just used the exhaust duct only.

Here is a strange part 21B that looks sort of a scimitar bladed inlet or turbine. However, the Mig-15 engine was centrifugal flow compressor and had no blades you can see from the front. The turbine blades in the rear were so small, you will not be able to see them from the exhaust side anyhow. I think it is an artistic liberty item.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4436.jpg

I decided to just color a disk black to place inside the exhaust duct.

another item is the speed brake shape. This model has brakes that are more in line with the early Mig-15 and not the later Mig-15bis versions.

Exclamation Aft and center fuselage-continued

Here is the exhaust duct glued to the aft end of the fuselage

add more sections moving forward
Mig-15 marathon-img_4441.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4442.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4443.jpg

Notice that I omitted the interior surfaces because the model will not be built in a split configuration and thus the engine is not showing. I did build another Mig-15 with the engine displayed. The engine came from the YG model ( this one ).

Here is the center and rear sections all joined up to the cockpit opening.

Exclamation Nose section

The nose section is relatively short and consists of rounded external skins and internal air intake that splits .

Here are the initial external sections
Mig-15 marathon-img_4446.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4448.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4450.jpg

the inlet splitter is really a 3 dimensional surface that does not lend itself to paper 2 dimensional layout. Here the designer resorted to many tiny parts that are glued together. The resulting surface really looks horrible!
Mig-15 marathon-img_4451.jpg

here is the internal frame showing the cutouts for the air tunnels
Mig-15 marathon-img_4452.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4454.jpg

here is the external nose section
Mig-15 marathon-img_4453.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4455.jpg

cut out the nose gear bay area
Mig-15 marathon-img_4456.jpg

of importance is to place weights in the nose if the model is to have a landing gear. Otherwise, you will have a tail seater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I added two of these fishing sinkers which was just enough ( 3 would have been OK as well ).
Mig-15 marathon-img_4457.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4458.jpg

after the weights are added, the section has a former added that seals the inner parts.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4459.jpg

Here is the entire nose section ready.
