Isaac,

She looks nice with the tail feathers on. Good work.

Red face Accidental cut

In the process of cutting some parts out of the large A3 sheet, I did not realize that for some reason, I had another sheet underneath and accidently slices thru the entire left wing.

I don't recall ever doing something like this. And on top of that other than a repair, there is no real recourse to match this part since the entire kit is printed with a gloss to it.

Here is the injured part

Oh well, I will repair it as best as I can.

Yikes! Maybe it's the quality of the card that you mentioned earlier.

Gary
The accidental cut is my fault.

This card paper though is not to my liking and difficult to work with ( it is too soft ).

Anyhow, on with the build

In this case, no since the original model I purchased is printed on shiny paper.

Also, printing one wing, I would never match the color unless the entire model is scanned and then printed at home.

Exclamation Wings- part 1

For some reason, the designer decided to have the wings butt joined to the fuselage.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4526.jpg

I really don't understand why the spars do not penetrate thru the fuselage for both strength and to keep the proper wing anhedral ( drooping down when you look straight from the front ).

here is the wing internal structure

the wing and supports
Mig-15 marathon-img_4528.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4529.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4530.jpg

the landing gear bay here has zero details. Kind of strange since there are so many parts like extra engine, flaps separate control surfaces...

Mig-15 marathon-img_4531.jpg
Note : I added a small piece of wood to the gear bay to support the struts later on.

here are the wing skins. Notice I repaired the accidently cut thru left wing
Mig-15 marathon-img_4532.jpg

here is the wings and inner support structure inserted. Also, I decided not to drop the flaps on this model for a variety of reasons.

Exclamation Wings-part 2

I added two wooden stub spars going thru the fuselage for proper structural support. It is a must for any build to have sound structure or else the model will warp and as it sinks over time, it would look silly.

Mig-15 marathon-img_4534.jpg

wings are glued on
Mig-15 marathon-img_4535.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4536.jpg

Mig-15 marathon-mig-15_anhedral.jpg
Notice the anhedral of the wings. The wings have a downward angle. That is common to all Mig-15 and 17. Often you see modelers ignore this feature ( or are ignorant to it ) and build their Migs with straight out or even dihedral wings.

both wings are glued on.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4537.jpgMig-15 marathon-img_4538.jpg

Wing fillets
Here are both wing forward fillets.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4539.jpg

However, there is an error here. Both fillets are identical and suitable to the right wing only.

I used the spare color sheet to make a new left wing fillet.
Mig-15 marathon-img_4540.jpg

my opinion:
There are numerous small errors in this kit. I think the right thing to do by those capable, is to scan it all and repaint or correct the errors prior to printing it. Building the model from the purchased print and then substituting repainted parts will be a difficult task..
