Are they on hinges so that one or the other can flap up if the tail starts to slew sideways too much - sort of an instant expansion of fin area? Why not just make the fin bigger instead? Since they are not standard equipment on other aircraft, maybe this was just a way to correct a design flaw of the Moth? Scratching my head.
De Havilland also had similar strakes on the Chipmunk. The Scottish Aviation/BAe Bulldog, in RAF service, (another type in my flying logbook ) also had anti-spin strakes. The Tiger Moth, Chipmunk and Bulldog were all trainers and I believe the strakes were there to ensure consistent, predictable spin qualities so that spin recovery would also be consistent and predictable. The strakes don't prevent spins, rather they prevent irregular spin behaviour, which would make teaching spin recovery to students a lot more difficult.

I am always intrigued by Bi-planes and Tri-planes. I have only built two of them. Primarily, my chief issue is getting all the rigging and alignment of flimsy wings.

You have done great work on this Moth.

you so right, Infierno; the wheels are the weak side of the model; I should replace them by wooden lathed ...

And thank you all for your nice compliments.

With lovely regards
Wilfried

Thanks Bernoullis, that was a very good explanation. Didn't have such a clear understanding before.

Hello Wilfried,
Beautiful aircraft.
It has all the halmarks of your work . . . neat, clean and precise.
