Thank you gents, your encouragement is really appreciated!

Time to move on to the starboard wing. I made a few enhancements similar to the port wing (that sounds rather logic...), regarding the flood light underneath the wing and the navigation light at the tip.

Then the engine nacelle. In the left engine I mounted a messing tube that perfectly went through the center hole of each of the three formers. Perhaps it was my good luck that it all fitted so nicely as somehow I did not manage the same for the the right engine. In a way I screwed up myself as I mistakenly glued the tube in the front two formers (and a straight line always runs through two points, of course) so I could not correct anymore when the third former was installed and the misalignment surfaced. Had to increase the hole, and the tube is pointing a bit downwards towards the spinner. That will result in a drunken propeller, but we'll see. As for the left nacelle, the same minor (I think) fitting issues.

The wing itself: I glued the nacelle to the wing before inserting and glueing the ribs and spars. Luckily the design of the model is such that it can be done that way, otherwise the nacelle would certainly not smoothly fit the curve of the wing. The upper part of the transition piece between nacelle and wing required some trimming as it appeared too wide and I could not prevent a bit of tension in the paper, causing a small buckle. Also a slightly visible is the front spar "shining" through the wing skin.
The right aileron is slightly down, as I glued the left one slightly up.

Finally, both wings happily together in one picture. The only thing missing is the aircraft in between. That'll be the next chapter so stay tuned!

Erik

Nice work on the wings, Erik

Always a bit tricky avoiding the spars showing through. I usually try not to put any glue on the spars.

Great that you got a good fit with the engine nacelles.

Looking good.

This is a much better kit than the Mally Modelarz version. More accurate.

...and

You are doing a great job on the Mossie

OK Gents, a small update to conclude the weekend. Finished a small detail on the right side of the fuselage. The kit does not provide it but on actual Mosquito pictures it is too clearly visible to ignore in 1:33 scale. I do not know exactly the function of it. Perhaps anyone knows?
Also the antenna is in place now and the aerial. I used the thinnest metal thread I could find in the local hobbyshop. Using plastic spruce would be too fragile. To reinforce the antenna I used a metal pin and small piece of cardboard to fill it up and to get the right droplet shaped cross section.

BUT, the most important achievement of the day is the right wing, finally in place. The first two pictures are a mock-up. Part 73 does not have the right colour but that could easily be resolved by using leftover aileron skin (this is surplus if you install the detailed ailerons). Also it did not properly fit the curve of the engine nacelle, but also not really problematic to solve. Although, by looking at the picture I may have better used one piece of paper to correct, rather than filling in the small gap with another scrap. Never mind, in reality it looks far less dramatic than in a close-up picture.

As you can see at times a paper waste bin come in very handy!! Next time the other wing.

Regards,
Erik
