airdave's p-51d

a build report of dave's p-51d RAF 112 Sqn.this is my first report on any forum,i suspect the hardest part for me will be my painfully slow 1 digit typing, hope i get time to build between reports.dave, you need not have any cause for concern,i'm not known for letting people down.little done today as it is mother's day in aus,a housefull of daughters & grand daughters this morning, took my wife to lunch at the family's tavern then a nanny nap.parts have been printed on 200 gsm,all parts pages have been liberally coated with wood sealer, this has no effect on the print, prevents edge color bleeding, can be sealed within minutes of printing and cut within minutes of sealing and allows me to use liberal amount of pva then easily clean up smudges & access glue, has no effect on adhesian.at first glance instructions look superior to most and printed detail is excellant, see pic.well cutting mat is cleared & knife sharpened ready for tommorrow.watch this space.harry

Excellent choice!
Pay close attention to how the windscreen should be positioned on the fuselage - black field on the skin is a bit misleading and might lead to a mistake I made.
If you need any help (or ideas how to complicate your life ), take a look at my build report Meet the Undertaker, different camo, but the same excellent design.

Yes...if you go to my store...and look at the extras page
there is a free download "P51D Update Kit"

Paper Model Shop Paper Model Extras

You won't need any of it except the last page, which is a template for
placement of the windscreen.

Oh, but there are a couple of Stands for the P51 included.

...
Nice looking prints!
Good luck.
I am looking forward to your report.

Gear up or down is your choice...build whatever you want.
I have no preference. (just so you know)

Can you provide more detail on what product you use for this? I've been searching for something that I can use that won't aggravate my wife's asthma (aerosol acrylic sealants and other volatile compounds have been banned in my house).

obviously waiting for hangman's answer...
but Krylon products have a couple of extremely low odor spray clearcoats.
In fact one of them is virtually no smell.
I use it on my printouts because I spray in the workshop, which houses the Furnace,
which sends any and all fumes throughout the house!

This is a great kit and you won't be disappointed. I purchased and build Dave's "City of Winnipeg Sqn", but it wound up going back to Winnipeg with my family after they visited me. I'll be making another for sure. I definitely recommend Michael's "Meet the Undertaker" thread, it helped me a lot.

Good Luck, and have fun.

Gary

Sorry fellas, this thread has not fallen at the first hurdle, last night I did attempt an update with a long labourious typing effort and a few pics then when I clicked submit it just disappeared somewhere into syber space, I was gutted and as it was late I did not feel like going through it again. Michael, thank you for the heads up I will visit your thread often. Dave, I visited your shop and down loaded the extras . Gary, thanks for your interest. Dabeer, I will try again. Another labourious typing effort and more pics coming soon. Dave, I have decided to build 2 versions a strait from the page gear up version and then a gear down version with any modifications I deem suitable and that I feel capable of executing, back soon Harry

I can't tell you how many times I have written out a forum post and lost it.
So I know how you feel.
Sometimes big posts, with photos and lots of writing.
All gone.
I am sure I "posted" and yet, its not there.
Obviously I moved away from the page or reloaded the page ...and lost the info.
Or...just forgot to hit "post".

Either way, the work is all gone and I am often too angry to do it all over again.
Best to leave it until later and try again! lol
