Smile A quick reference

There is a Tupolev ANT-7 ( a civilian version ) in the Kiev museum in Ukraine. A friend sent me some reference photos from the russianplanes.net web site.

Here are pics of the engine nacelle. While it is not the same as the model, it does show the similarity and simpleness of the design. Do not pay attention to the propellers as they are not correct for the R-6 version I'm building ( they rotate opposite ).

I've checked that there were build over 400 R6's (ANT-7). So it is very possible the there were dozens of various modifications depending on engine type an so on...

There are many variants for this aircraft. So it was important for me to understand the version that I am building.

Than you for following my build.

Apart from the errors in the kit itself, this is looking good.

Nice going.

I had the same query. It's a "profile/contour gauge".

The only caution I would have is to get one with minimal resistance. The one shown is really for woodwork and I had to manually adjust the pins to get the right shape or else it would have destroyed the paper.

However, it is a great tool that you can make yourself.

Smile Engine nacelles

I finally got the engine nacelles done. Lots of strips and plates, but it really adds to the "heavy metal" look of this plane.

I added a cardboard and a piece of plywood on the inside to support the landing gear strut. Also, made adjustments to the mating contour cut out.

At this time, the exhausts are omitted since they are too delicate.

In order to get a better fit, I glued card stock strips to the wings to guide the engine nacelles on:

Right engine nacelle on.

And the left. Now this plane has engines.
