Hey guys, I have found a couple of pictures of the "George" repainted by Brent. The aircraft depicted was the Kawanishi N1K2-J Shiden Kai Model 21, nš 343-A-15 (s/n unknown) of 301. Hikotai. 343 Kokutai, Kanoya airbase, Kyushu, April 1945. It was flown by Taii Naoshi Kanno (credited with 25 victories), the Hikotaicho of 301. Hikotai. He was killed in action on 1st August 1945 in the vicinity of Yakushima at the controls of the aircraft nš 343-A-28.

Thanks for the i.d.s Jose Luis.
The 343 Ku was organized and commanded by then-Captain Genda Minoru, who had helped plan the Japanese Navy attack on Pearl Harbor. He organized 343 Ku with the best available pilots and best available aircraft for the air defense of Japan and as an alternative to the use of suicide tactics. As Brent mentioned when he presented the N1K2-J model, 343 Ku was known as "Genda's Blade." After the war, Genda became Chief of Staff of the Japan Air Self Defense Force. These are great models of great and historic aircraft. Don |
