Engine nacelles
The nacelles are basically are long cylinders that are shaped wide to narrow going aft.
Eric provided the cross section formers for the parts. However, since I will be using the inner flow-path, these will be difficult to use and I just omitted them. Isaac

Engines on
And here is what they look like next to the fuselage
dry fit And glued on You can see thru the flow path. Note, since this is a simple model and I really did not know what is visible from the inlet side of this ram jet, all is omitted . There is an engine plate and a conical section not used. Isaac

Fuselage to nacelle fairing
There is a nice fairing that gives it a nice finished look that spans the interface of the fuselage to the engine nacelles.
Nice fit Isaac

Actually, I'm not really sure if the lorin ramjet had an inlet cone.
So I just created an inlet cone based on the diagrams I found via Google and pushed them back a bit for aesthetic purposes. Months after I finished the design, I found this: The ramjet, past, present or future ? and this: Ramjet Looks much more "correct" for the vs. the cone intake. I'll update the design when I get the time. Last edited by eric_son; 05-26-2015 at 05:28 AM. |

Unless you have a cross section of the actual proposed ram jet engine, I would not rely on generic information. The cone may be a variable area intake device and its position may critical. Another thing that I do not understand is how they planned to get this plane up to speed. The ground cart can only get you airborne , the ram jet needs about 400 mph before it can develop thrust. So either air drop or some booster rockets needed? Anyhow, a fun project. Isaac

Wings
My only modification to the design is to use wood sticks as wing spars. Those where inserted flat side up thru to the fuselage. I then added the inner rib to the sides and card material above and below to use as an inner glove for a smooth fit. I thought it would be a sturdy wing attachment.
The fit was very good. Isaac

RE: getting airborne
I saw some "drawings" of this having detachable booster rockets much like the ones on the Natter. |

Hi Isaac, coming along very well. I find these experimental planes quite interesting. When I read your thread (that rimes nicely) I also wondered how they would give the plane its initial speed as it seems that the ram type jet principle requires external power to get it started.
