Iaf s'aar. 1:48

Dear All,
Since I already presented the paper model of the super mystere b2 it will be unfair to complete this chapter without the S'AAR fighter that fought very well in Yom kippur war.
So I just started the build diary.

Here is the original simple one that I built

I also enlarged to 1/33.

And both at different stages

Nice model to build. Looking forward to yours.

Thanks Isaac - your model is looking great in 1:33 .
I will also add a cockpit as this is a must .
In Yom Kippur war the black and yellow markings
were added to distinguish the S'AAR from hawker
hunters that Arab air forces operated. From the
side and distance both planes were looking almost
the same.
I not in a hurry to build it but we still have the last
days of Sukkut holiday and some spare time.

S'AAR build diary

I attached some photos of the main bady mounting.
For some reason the disks were smaller and I had to make
theme bigger. Also if you built it straight the aft section of
the body is tilted upwards somthing that I had to deal by
cutting a small tread of part 7.
Also , the cockpit place is already cut to allow the build.
The putting of weight at the rear is an old way to press
the gaps between the parts after puttig glue and to give
the engine nozzle a circular shape by a round part.

once i was doing "crop" for my 1:50 model files, so for that my old models should be printed with photoshop or other programs that know to keep the right scale.

good luck

S'AAR and the IAF

The super mystere was starting to show it's age after the six day war.
The weak point was the atar 101G engine. Since Israel had an embargo
with France no spare parts were awailable.
Then someone suggested to replace the atar with the J52 of the A-4 skyhawk.
Shortly after tests on ground started. Then flights started with success.
The upgraded super mystre received the name S'AAR means storm in hebrew.
Many changes were incorporated : two more pilons for shafrir Air to Air missiles ,
more robust hydraulic system and some new electronic systems developed in Israel.
The S'AAR could carry more bombs and had a better operating range while at low
altitude the performance remained the same.
The fact that it couldn't go supersonic at a level flight from 10000 feet as the
super mystere was not considered a drawback since by then the interception
mission was handed over to the mirages and new Phantoms that just arrived.
Almost 28 were upgraded until Yom Kippur war.
In the next chapter I will describe the S'AAR in Yom Kippur war.
