What a great job, Nando. The rigging looks really nice, too. Not a plane I would have chosen, but you may have changed my mind about it. I've been working on a list of Bruno's models I want and I think I may add this one to the list.
One question, are the struts paper as well or did you have to reinforce them.
Super job and thanks for sharing.

Dave

Thanks

Wyvern, YOAVHOZMI, dhanners, gomidefilho, scissorsandplanes, sparrowhawk, Loui, Isaac, MacSongLi, thank you all for your kind appreciations.

dhanners, sparrowhawk, Isaac, I agree with you for the unique and inusual design of this plane.

If you think that this plane was conceived immediatly after the first world war ( first flight: august 1924 ), it's outstanding how many advanced features included for this time:
monoplane solution, two engines mounted in tandem for reduce the drag, two equal hulls for get a strong structure and a good nautical stability.
May be precisely those features concurred to confine the plane at a marginal role, till when propaganda needs did emerge it again. And so, almost a decade later, it could show its qualities.

Thanks Dave, I'm happy if my work push some one else to built this Italian Idro.
About the struts, they are of paper, I only tried to round them, as they are in reality ( see the picture below ).
To give more rigidity to the struts, I usually use CA glue, that make the paper strong like the p.....c.

Best, Nando

Probably was sold on ecardmodels.com before their crashes and subsequent rebuild, or check here on the forum

It is No. 872 on Bruno's list of models, so it should be available from him. I recommend a PM to him at scissorsandplanes

Also on the list are:
873. Savoia Marchetti S55M Italy
874. Savoia Marchetti S55A Brazil
875. Savoia Marchetti S55A Italy Stripes
876. Savoia Marchetti S55A Jahû

And if Nando built 23 more, he would have a Balbo.

Don
