From top left:

1. One of gil's primo tyre templates. To get these to fit is just a matter of resizing via the photocopier. Applying them is soooo simple, just soak them in a slow glue (water-soluble is actually good here as it soaks right in), and then wrap around your tire template. Easy.

2. Why I hate petalled forms!! These were attempts 1 and 2 to make up a bombload for the 170 (I assume that stores were carried externally?) - I have since found Gil's tutorial on making up petalled parts but have yet to give it a go - watch this space.

3. My first attempts at the engine cowlings. My most successful so far have involved working from front to rear i.e. from narrowest end to widest end; and using a petalled joining strip i.e. like this: WWWW and lots of slow soaking-in glue. Accurate cutting is so important as when I finally got one I was happy with, it was too small to fit the fuselage circumference!!

4. First attempts at rolling the gear legs - don't worry, have already reprinted replacement parts for round 2.

Had I viewed this thread before I posted in reply to your MJ post, my reply would have been much different.

Once I got my foot out of my mouth, I found that post to be quite funny.:D

Hope you are not too offended by my stupidity.:p

Looks fantastic!

I often use a pair of curved scissors that the RC racers use to trim the wheel-wells of thier new plastic car-bodies for cutting circles. Works great! I'm curious to see how you resolve your petal troubles..

While there are various pirate sites hosting this model it can be freely and legitimately downloaded at Kartonmodellbau Forum, although you will need to register to get to the download library.. http://www.kartonmodell-forum.org/downloads/p170.pdf

WARNING: be advised that there are other cool models available for download in this library and accessing the link may cause model stashes and domestic relationships to become strained...
