My airplane mechanic disagrees. He says a helicopter is "a collection of spare parts flying in formation." I've also heard that a helicopter is simply so ugly that the earth repels it. I flew one once--well, sort of. Put a fixed-wing pilot/aviation journalist in a helicopter cockpit and the result is more high comedy than test flight. I give the instructor credit, he only laughed a little. --David
