This model was released in 1961 in the IAF magazine and its a repainted whilhelmshavener IL 28 in the Egyptian air force color scheme. The original model has no cockpits - so in this model I added 3 cockpits : the pilot , navigator bombardier and tail turret gunner . Attached are photos from the build diary. Yair |

IL 28 Beagle - devlopment
The IL 28 prtotype flirst fly in 1948. The design was straight forward and very successful.
Ilushin design bouro used two VAk1 engines that were the russian extrapolation of the RR nene british engine. The engines were mounted inside big houses below the straight wing - which was high shulder mounted to the body. The consisted 3 -1 pilot , 1 navigator bombardier and a tail gunner turret. As more than 6500 were built in Russia and china it was by far the most widely used tactical bomber in the world. The iL 28 served with many countries around the globe in many jobs and applications. The most closest bomber to it is the British Canberra. Yair |

six day war - IL 28 EAF vs Mirage IIIc IAF
For almost 10 years since the late fifties the IL 28 was penetrating Israel for reconnaissance
missions during the dark nights. Both Egypt and Syria operated the type. The IAF tried to intercept it without success for several years. In the six day war after the crushing of the EAF on the ground some aircrafts escaped and were able to attack Israeli advancing ground forces in the Sinai peninsula. The Israeli controllers vectored mirages to El A'rish region where EAF planes were attacking Israeli ground forces. At near Al A'rish there is a zone of the Mediterranean sea with shallow water called Bardhawill. The Israeli pilot observed IL 28 escaping back there. The mirage which was much faster closed the range for a gun kill and all of a sudden the mirage pilot realized by the streaks of the bullets around that the gunner at the rear turret is firing on him. The pilot slowed down the mirage and changed the gun sight to a shift firing mode and fired a couple of long bursts of 2 30mm guns until the IL 28 was badly hit. After a few seconds the IL 28 splashed into the sea. That was a sweet revange after all the years of frustration. Yair |

f-84f vs IL 28 - Muskateer operation 1956
In 1955 Egypt received 150 mig 15 and some 30 IL 28 bombers in what have known as the Cbech weapon deal . A year later Muskateer operation which was a joint operation of Britain crance and Israel took plcace. The french air force brought to lod airport two mystere IV
squadrons and one f-84f Thunderstreak squadron. Also other f-84f squadrons were sent to Acrotiri Cyprus. The Kadesh Operation started in October 29th and the Sinai peninsula was conquered in 3 days while in November 1st Muskatier British French operation started . The f-84f from Acrotiri were send to destroy the IL 28 of the EAF in several EAF airbases and they destroyed 20 IL 28 on the ground while the F-84f squadron from Lod shut down one IL 28. Only one F-84f was lost during the operation. The destruction of the IL 28 was very important for the British - French forces that fought to size the Suez canal area back . Attached is a model of IAFM F-84f with Danish paint scheme along EAF IL 28. Yair |
