Seversky P-35 1:33 MODELIK
Hi!
And welcome to my first build report. Recently, I've ordered and recived models from MODELIK. I am not so interested in planes, but I decided to give it a try. I chose Seversky P-35. Model seems to be quite easy and it's recomended for beginners. That's why I decided to do this model. Three A4 pages + short instruction and two pages of general plans. I use, as addons, laser cut ribs. Work with this model is quite nice. I can't complain. Till now everything's fine and I hope that it will be till the end. Anyway I'd like to ask more experienced papermates, what is the best techique to make plane 'skin' I am not so satisfied with the result. What I mean is, that cover goes a little bit inside and it shows ribs under the cover. I think you can see it on pictures. I will welcome any tip and trick or sugestion what to do Best Regards |

For a better fitting "skin" you will likely want to look at dry fitting the skin around the former, and then trimming if the fit is too tight. Depending on the manufacturer some formers fit better when cut on the black line, and some fit better when cut inside the black line.

Your build is looking good.
I am at a similar stage with this model too. Please be careful with former numbers 29a and 29b. I think the instructions have them mixed up Tim |

Hi!
A few days has passed since last entry so it's time for a little update. I've done the body. There weren't any serious problems with it. I just used different technique. Was it better? You can see the result on the pictures. The only conclusion is that I need to learn more and get more experience if I wanna make planes in the future. Coz my mistakes, I have some gaps between the parts. I will try to fix it with PVA glue mixed with proper color. Hope that this will work I have plan what to do next during this weekend, so I will keep on this report updated. Thanks, I am doing my best! Quote:

Nice work. Many years ago, Bill Geoghegan (Dr Bill, now inactive in the Forum) did a build report on this model for the late Saul Jacobs's paper modeling website. I cannot find my copy, but perhaps one of the old timers here either has the file or knows how to find the site with the wayback machine.

Ship hull skins are plane wings/fuse fittings take time to master. Still working on it myself. I switch back to buildings sometimes just so I dont have to deal with it

Hi!
It's time for an update I've done tail and wings. Also cover of the engine. There was a problem with the tail. Parts didn't match well. I had to fill in the gaps with PVA glue and silver paint. But I think it isn't the best option. You can see that silver paint mixed with PVA glue is darker than silver color on model. Do you think, that some kind of putty is better to fill in gaps than PVA glue? I am thinking about Tamiya putty or liquid green stuff from GW. Has anyone tryed them with card models? I also had problems with wings. Quite the same like with the tail. Not so perfefect macthing. A few gaps to fill in, but I am going to do it tomorrow. And I will try something else than PVA glue. Lukas Ps. Do you know any good web, where I can buy printable models in PDF format? I am interested in tanks (1:25), planes (1:33) and ships (1:200). Thanks for any sugestion. |
