SIAI-Marchetti S55 Flying Boat

The SIAI-Marchetti S55 flying boat is the third model I've completed from the book. It would be quite the challenge to make this paper model rise off the water in a controlled powered flight.

I am curious... have you tried flying them? I see some sacrifices were made in the design (probably to improve flying characteristics).

Very nice, but don't try this one to fly.
Try other with stronger fuselage!!!
The book looks very interesting.
Happy modeling and flying.

Classic Paper Planes & Historic Paper Planes

Very nicely built, Marc!

They all look extremely good!

I have those two books as well (in good condition) but I haven't built anything from them yet, although I have often thought about it.

All the best from Stockholm,
Bengt

Falco, I'm just as curious and doubt that these are all static models for display only.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I have not yet tried to fly any. My goal is to build all 8 (2 of them are missing from my book) and then take a family photo.

These first three came out quite tail heavy so I'll have to add nose weight to get the proper CG. I have a reasonably successful history of building and flying balsa models. But it is quite challenging for me to get these paper models to build straight and strong. If my paper modeling technique improves enough that I feel one of the planes is airworthy I will certainly give it a toss!

I wonder why there aren't any other build threads for these models. Is it because the models are too easy? Or too hard? Are the kit books too difficult to find or of poor quality? Is there not much interest in die-cut kits? Or are the books considered too pretty to punch out the parts? I'm confused.

Marc

My main reason is because the book is so darn nice... But I got inspired by your work and actually purchased duplicates of my books on amazon (25 dollars total for both books... used off course) for me to build and FLY!

I've got two copies of this book and one of it's sequel but have just never gotten around to building any of the kits.
