I can't remember exactly. I found a list of aircraft operated by American Airlines throughout the years, and the only entries under 747 was the 747SP's.

Without a doubt American had -100’s. I flew on them numerous times.
If you look at early photos of the shuttle carrier in question, it still has the red white and blue stripes running down the sides. A leftover from the American days. |

If I may add to that. If you look at that first 747 it also still had the ghost image of the word AMERICAN on the side as well.

I know the ghost image of the word AMERICAN on the side was there. That was a very important thing that plastic modeler tried to recreate when Revell first reliest there 1/144 scale of their shuttle carrier model. That was important at that time. Would it be possible to put the ghost image of the word AMERICAN on the side of the paper model?

If you look at papermate's pictures you can see that the faint American logo is present on the fuselage.
Edit: papermate posted his picture right before I hit post so there you go. |

All I wanted was a quick recoloring of the model I already had, after a few minor changes (converting it from the -800 back to a -400) Next thing I know, I'm spending a month redesigning 3 different types of engines, shortening the hump, making sure every rivet is correctly placed and numbered, etc. |

To put you mind at ease, The Mole, please see the extracted templates from the kit.
It's there as Murph says. Maybe I shouldn't have used hot laminated paper (for the reflective and glossy effect), the ghost image "American" will come out more. Papermate |
