There used to be an animated TV series called 'Alvin And The Chipmunks' which was later made into a bunch of full length movies.

Well friends, the F-14 needs no introduction, it is a classic of the cold war and the period after it, widely known in the Western world (and beyond it as well), it caused a deep impact in the 80s in literature, film industry and video games.

A small trivia:

"HISTORY OF MISS MOLLY"
When the USS Carl Vinson was launched on March 12, 1982, the honor of christening the ship was given to its sponsor, Molly Snead, the Navy nurse who had cared for Carl Vinson and his wife. Molly was honored further when a C-1 Trader transport aircraft was named after her.
Later, an F-14A Tomcat from VF-111 Sundowners was painted with WWII-style nose art of a Navy Nurse and also bore her name. The unique combination of bold artwork and bright squadron markings made "Miss Molly" one of the most colorful F-14's ever flown.
The Sundowners were originally commissioned as VF-11 at NAS North Island on October 10, 1942. The name "Sundowners" refers to the squadron's job of shooting down Japanese "Suns", but it also refers to an old nautical term. A "Sundowner" was also a ship's captain who directed his crew towards hard work until the day was ended. The term originated in the days of sailing ships when grog was customarily served on ships. A strict captain might withhold the ration until dark, but others allowed the grog to be served when the sun dipped below the yardarm.

A wonderful repaint made by my friend Brent, on a model that I consider one of the most difficult in Bruno's entire line, I chose not to leave the wings movable. This model had been stopped since December 2020 when I got divorced. As I am in an effort to finalize forgotten projects, I have one more successfully completed! I want to honor the great master Lorenzo Martinez (RIP) who made an excellent tutorial to build the F-14, thanks to him I managed to finish my model. It will certainly not be the last. Brent's Repaint is based on the models #2789 to #2799 in catalog.

Thanks for sharing the images of this excellent model and the background info, Péricles.

On 16 March 1990, I had the pleasure of watching from the bridge of USS Carl Vincent (CVN-70) as it launched F-14s in the Sea of Japan (Eastern Sea). I had flown out via a Lockheed US-3A (7995, tail number 715) of VCR-50, had my first and only trap and cat that day, and also had the pleasure of handling the controls of the Viking for about half an hour (my one short experience of flying jets for the Navy).

Seeing your model, I was wondering if one of the F-14s I saw that day could have been Miss Molly, but VF-11s deployment aboard CVA-70 ended in November 1989.

In any event, another great Péricles model!

Don
